The whole idea of our get together is to celebrate the Illinois Girls' Coaches Association and the many wonderful people who made girl's sports in Illinois a reality. By using our videographer we will have a live documentary of our beginnings as told by each of you. We will celebrate with friends and renew old acquaintances. Your presence and story will be a part of Illinois sports history.
Beth Carpenter will be our videographer on site. When you register, your name tag will have a number on it indicating an order of the taping of guests. One of our primary goals for the evening is for you to tell your story to the videographer for our documentary. So please consider your answers to the questions listed below. You will have 2-3 minutes on video. You may come to the camera by yourself, with your guest , or with 2 or 3 others. There will be a poster with prompts at the interview site. So please be as bold as the girls you coached and make your statement for our camera. Come tell your story. You will receive a copy of the resulting video. It's history! Be part of it.
1. Please give your name, what you coached, where and for how long (from what year to what year).
2. Talk about
your goals and aspirations for women's sports in Illinois as you began your programs.
3. What challenges / obstacles did you encounter as you created programs and began to coach girls.
4. What do you believe is the benefit of competitive sports for girls?
5. What do you hope your athletes took with them for their future as a result of being on your team?
6. Do you have any words of wisdom or wishes for girls and women in sports?
We are pleased to have Ann Reed as our featured performer Sunday evening. Several of the organizing committee members have heard her perform. loved her songs and thought of her immediately as the perfect entertainer for our reunion. It's been said about Ann that she is a "...terrific singer, amazing songwriter, and darned good guitar player. Ann Reed has had devoted fans lining up at the box office for more than a quarter-century...She has done festival dates at world-renowned venues such as Bumbershoot and the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Her...television and radio appearances include Good Morning America, A Prairie Home Companion, and Minnesota Public Radio's Morning Show, where she occasionally fills in as co-host...Ann has had a satisfying career by anyone's measure-combining her artistry with community involvement. She donates about 25% of her time to the support of nonprofit groups that primarily benefit women and children. It all boils down to this: Ann loves what she does. And the people who hear her music love what she does." We are sure you too will love Ann Reed. After the concert Ann will be selling some of the unique items from the Ann Reed Boutique. She will be pleased to autograph any cd's you purchase. If you'd like to learn more, check out her website http://annreed.com
Thanks to all of your for the work you have done for girls and sports in the state of Illinois. We are so please that we will all be together to celebrate that work and to honor the end of the Illinois Girls' Coaches Association. See you in Galena on the 20th!
Sincerely,
Gayle, Sue, Carol, Marilyn and Bonnie
